31-day charging study on Tesla Cybertruck uncovers the real cost of operation

Tesla’s Cybertruck may come with a significant price tag, but could its status as an electric vehicle ultimately make it more economical over time?

Elon Musk’s automaker often finds itself in the news, sometimes for less positive reasons—whether it’s a Tesla owner highlighting a ‘major flaw’ with the vehicle in cold weather or another incident involving someone stepping on their Cybertruck with unfortunate results.

However, it’s important to acknowledge that as a fully electric pick-up truck, the Cybertruck is designed to be more environmentally friendly compared to diesel or petrol cars. This eco-friendliness could potentially offset its initial high cost. So, after the initial purchase, how does the vehicle fare in terms of running costs, and is it ultimately worth the investment?

YouTuber Matt Wallace set out to explore this question, sharing his findings on how much it costs to run a Cybertruck for 31 days.

Wallace asks, “So how much have I spent in the past 31 days to charge my Tesla Cybertruck? Well, the answer actually may surprise you a bit.”

“I know there’s a big stigma around EV’s that they’re super expensive to charge and that they take forever – well, that’s not necessarily true.”

Wallace, having grown curious, decided to test it out at a local supercharger to see how much he spent charging his vehicle over the past month.

He discovered that he spent a total of $32 to charge his Cybertruck with 634kWh over the last 31 days.

People quickly chimed in with their thoughts, noting that several other aspects also need to be taken into account.

A YouTube commenter remarked, “Doesn’t put into account how many miles that is. If $32 is only for driving 600 miles that isn’t very impressive compared to fuel costs for most modern hybrids.”

Another added, “My cybertruck uses 12kWh a day just sitting parked… lol that’s $4.20 a day sitting in my driveway if I plug it in at home. Lucky I have a year of free supercharging.”

A third person argued, “Yeah, but that hundred grand price tag across 5 or 10 years maybe… I spend less on driving a 40 year old suburban a month than you lol… Who cares about the cost of gas and the cost of electric when you add in the cost of the vehicle… I will never understand trying to save money by doing that…”

Another Cybertruck owner revealed that a full charge for his vehicle was surprisingly expensive and also required a substantial amount of time to reach full capacity.
