Internet users were taken aback when MrBeast shared what Elon Musk said during their first encounter.
MrBeast, also known as Jimmy Donaldson, recounted the meeting in an interview with fellow YouTuber Theo Von where they discussed life and career milestones.
Von referred to Musk and MrBeast as ‘pioneers in certain schools of thought’. While Musk is preoccupied with ambitious projects like ‘taking us to Mars… communicating through your phone with your brain [and] solving traffic issues’, MrBeast humorously noted that he’s ‘pioneering funny videos’.
“I don’t know if I’d put those [at the same level],” he quipped. “But yeah, we bumped into each other at the Super Bowl, exchanged greetings.”
During their meeting, Musk posed a particular question, seemingly seeking MrBeast’s insights as a social media influencer.
He stated: “I think he asked me, ‘Do I think people call X ‘Twitter’ still, or do people call it X?'”
It’s a question many can answer, and MrBeast was candid in his response.
“I was like uh, ‘most people call it Twitter, that I’ve noticed’,” he remembered, noting that Musk found his answer ‘interesting’.
This revelation sparked a significant reaction online, with many amused by Musk’s apparent desire for the new name of his platform to gain traction.
“Literally everyone calls it Twitter. If they mention X at all they’re like ‘now known as X’ (with an eye roll),” one person commented. Another echoed: “It’s Twitter Elon. It will always be, Twitter.”
A Twitter user humorously suggested that the platform’s renaming might be something that ‘keep[s] Elon up at night’, while another remarked: “wait that’s kinda sad ngl. i mean im still gonna call it twitter but still!”

In July 2023, Musk initiated a rebranding of Twitter, including a logo change to a black-and-white ‘X’.
This followed his acquisition of Twitter in October 2022, yet over a year later, many remain attached to its original name.
Aside from their Super Bowl encounter, MrBeast mentioned that he and Musk have not had further interactions or plans for collaboration.
“I’m in talks with people at SpaceX and we’ve been developing ideas and such, but not directly with Elon,” he explained.
