Netflix often finds itself at the center of viewers’ frustrations, at least according to social media discussions.
The streaming service is known for launching series that seem unrequested while discontinuing beloved shows after just a single season.
However, a consensus has emerged among Reddit users that one of Netflix’s newest series is exceptional and warrants a second season without delay.
In addition to the strong fan feedback, reflected by a 91 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes’ audience score, the show has also been favorably reviewed by critics, earning an 89 percent rating.
The series in question is One Hundred Years of Solitude, adapted from the renowned novel by Gabriel García Márquez.
A discussion was initiated on the Reddit board, Netflix Best of, by user Autumnlover1515, who expressed their admiration for the show.
They shared: “Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s masterpiece is finally available on Netflix, and I am so happy for it.
“I am on E1 and just finishing. It was gripping, interesting, beautiful at times and odd. So, I cannot wait to keep watching how this adaptation carries on.
“I am loving the actors, and it is very well produced. They took their sweet time to release this, so… I have high hopes.”
Other Reddit users echoed the praise and called for a continuation with a second season.
One user remarked: “Two episodes in and I love it!!! even though some of the context of the book is lost, the detail and feeling are still just as captivating. So glad it will not be rushed or turned into another copy-paste Netflix show.”
Another added: “I just finished the series, it’s only half of the book! They better make the second part!”
A third user commented: “I got the same good vibes as when I was two episodes into the first season of Game of Thrones, another book I feared would translate badly to the screen.
“I’m really pleased they went with an all South American/Spanish-speaking cast, seeing the usual famous Hollywood faces in Macondo would have ruined the magic. I really dig the chemistry between José Buendía (the first) and Úrsula. I also think they nailed Melquíades, he’s just as I envisioned him reading the book.”
If you’re searching for a new series to dive into during the holiday season, this might be an excellent option.
