Brooke Shields has candidly discussed her intimate life in her latest memoir, emphasizing that there’s “nothing wrong with using whatever you need.”
In her book, “Brooke Shields Is Not Allowed to Get Old: Thoughts on Aging as a Woman,” the 59-year-old star of Mother of the Bride shares insights into how her perspective on sex has evolved over the years. She admits to sometimes “pretending” with her husband, Chris Henchy.
Reflecting on her younger years, Shields describes having a “fervent sex drive.” However, as she was quoted by US Weekly, “But I never felt like I could step into that appetite in the way that I wanted to.”
A recent conversation with a doctor about her sex life prompted Shields to reassess her feelings towards sex.
The actress, who recently shared her experience of a gynaecologist’s “invasive” actions during labia surgery, told the doctor she currently has “no desire” for sex but is “fine with it.” The doctor, however, “was not fine with it.”
Shields admits to sometimes pretending to be “asleep” when her husband Chris Henchy attempts to initiate intimacy.
She explains, “Here I am […] sometimes pretending I’m asleep when I know Chris is in the mood.” Shields clarifies that this has “nothing to do with Chris – he’s hot! He’s been working out at a boxing gym recently, and he looks incredible.”
While acknowledging this isn’t ideal, she shares some of the reasons sex can be challenging for her and why she isn’t often in the mood.
Shields attributes much of her diminished desire to her evolving relationship with her body as she ages, calling it “bodily s**t.”
She also mentions that surgery has led to sex sometimes being “painful.”
Shields notes that she requires “lotions and potions” as well as “the right sleepwear” to “fully enjoy sex at this point.”
She humorously suggests that “maybe calling it sleepwear is contributing to the problem,” adding that her “special pillow” and “maybe a tequila” help her “relax.”
Despite receiving a “lecture [by the doctor] about how important sex is to a relationship,” Shields concludes with the sentiment: “Listen, there’s nothing wrong with using whatever you need! Whatever it takes.”
