Jesse Watters, a news host, has sparked criticism following his comments regarding husbands assisting with a routine chore.
After Donald Trump took office again on Monday (January 20), there has been significant focus on Kamala Harris, the former Vice President, who challenged Trump in the 2024 election.
Harris has since returned to her residence in Los Angeles, spending time with her husband, Doug Emhoff.
Recently, the couple, married for a decade, was seen grocery shopping at the 99 Ranch Market.
Fox News’ Jesse Watters reported on their outing, with his comments stirring a reaction from some viewers.
He provocatively asked: “What kind of husband goes grocery shopping with his wife?”
Viewers took to Twitter to express their reactions to Watters’ statement.
One user replied to Watters’ question with: “A normal one?”
Another shared: “My husband comes shopping with me. I feel more comfortable and safe when I’m out and he’s there. He likes making me feel comfortable and safe.”
Another commented: “As a retired couple we now grocery shop together and it’s fun!”
In response to Watters’ controversial question, someone quipped: “Jesse, this question is why you don’t have a wife.”
Another user questioned: “My wife I shop together, frequently! So what is Watters’ issue?”
Many people labeled it as ‘normal’ for couples to shop together, arguing it shouldn’t be solely the wife’s responsibility.
A 2023 survey, as reported by Statista, indicated that 56 percent of American men consider themselves the main shopper in their households.
In contrast, a 2020 study revealed that only 26 percent of men in the UK claimed to handle most or all of the grocery shopping.
Jesse Watters is no stranger to making contentious statements on TV.
In the previous year, he speculated that music icon Taylor Swift was possibly an ‘asset’ for the Pentagon, a claim the Department of Defense later dismissed.
In his remarks about Swift, Watters said: “She’s all right, but I mean, have you ever wondered why or how she blew up like this?
“Well, around four years ago, the Pentagon psychological operations unit floated turning Taylor Swift into an asset during a NATO meeting. What kind of asset? A psy-op for combatting online misinformation.”
Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh addressed Watters’ assertions, cleverly alluding to one of Swift’s hit songs: “As for this conspiracy theory, we are going to shake it off.”
