Kim Sae-ron, the star of Netflix’s Bloodhounds, has been reported deceased by police officials.
On February 16, around 16:55, the 24-year-old actor from South Korea was found dead by a friend in Seoul’s Seongsu-dong district.
Authorities are still investigating the circumstances surrounding Kim’s death. According to Yonhap News Agency, there is currently no evidence of foul play.
Kim gained recognition with her role in “A Brand New Life” (2009), a film written and directed by Ounie Lecomte. The debut feature was inspired by the writer’s personal experiences in Seoul in 1975.
The narrative follows Jin-hee (played by Kim Sae-ron), a young girl who is left at a Catholic orphanage by her father and details her struggles to adapt to her new environment.
The film received the Best Asian Film Award at the 22nd Tokyo International Film Festival and won the jury award at the 2009 Cinekid Festival in Amsterdam. It was also included in the Special Screenings category at the Cannes Film Festival.
Kim became the youngest actor to be invited to Cannes for an award, as reported by Rotten Tomatoes.
In the following years, Kim appeared in “The Man From Nowhere” (2010) and “A Girl at My Door” (2014), and took on leading roles in several TV series such as “Listen to My Heart” (2011), “The Queen’s Classroom” (2013), and “Hi! School: Love On” (2014).
She played Cha Hyun-joo in the Netflix series “Bloodhounds,” released in June 2023. However, after being fined for driving under the influence in Gangnam District, Seoul, in May 2022, much of her role was edited out, according to Variety.
Following the announcement of Kim’s passing, fans swiftly took to social media to express their condolences.
A Twitter user wrote: “So very young to leave this world. Rest in Peace.”
Another shared: “Gone too soon. May your soul find peace and happiness and rest in peace.”
“Rest in peace. This is so heartbreaking,” commented a third.
Someone else remarked: “I feel very sad reading about Kim Sae Ron’s passing. It’s been a rough few years for this talented girl and made me wonder where it all went wrong. She made some mistakes but IMO nothing that warranted the sort of ‘cancellation’ she got. They were too harsh on her.”
The investigation into Kim’s death is still underway.
