Elon Musk makes bold promise following Trump’s purchase of Tesla to champion his ‘baby’

Elon Musk has made a major promise after Donald Trump stepped in and bought a Tesla to support him.

Since Musk was appointed co-lead of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), he’s been seen with the former president more often. But few expected a lineup of Teslas—including a Cybertruck—parked outside the White House on March 11.

Trump, taking to Truth Social, accused “Radical Left Lunatics” of colluding to boycott Tesla as the company’s stock hit a new low. To show support, he announced he was buying a “brand new Tesla”—despite being banned from driving.

Footage of Trump inspecting the cars revealed a handwritten note listing Tesla models, prices, and features. It included: “Teslas can be purchased as low as $299/month or $35K. All cars have self-driving, just needs to be turned on (fee).”

Trump insisted he’d “pay full price,” but buying a car instead of simply praising Musk publicly seems like an expensive show of support.

Meanwhile, Musk made his own announcement, tweeting:

“In support of the policies of President @realDonaldTrump and to demonstrate our confidence in the future of the United States, @Tesla commits to doubling vehicle production in the US within 2 years!”

Skepticism followed. One person replied, “Don’t you need demand to do that?” Another added, “And halving the price?”

Others speculated about left-wing activists allegedly targeting Tesla owners. One user wrote:

“Sounds ambitious! But with people driving Teslas being attacked by vicious, leftist, paid ‘protesters,’ how are you going to sell all those cars? Overseas? I’d buy one if I could afford it, because I live in a very conservative area.”

So far, Musk’s pledge isn’t winning universal support.
