One of the strangest conspiracy theories to have emerged is the belief that pop star Katy Perry is actually JonBenét Ramsey. This theory is among the more bizarre ones floating around the internet.
If you recall the case, JonBenét Ramsey was a six-year-old girl who was tragically killed around Christmas in 1996. She was discovered deceased in the basement of her parents’ Boulder, Colorado home, with an autopsy indicating strangulation as the cause of death.
Despite nearly three decades passing, JonBenét’s murder remains unsolved, but some internet theorists speculate that she never died.
According to this theory, JonBenét grew up to become Katy Perry, the well-known pop star from California.
Perry has only recently addressed this theory, but it has been circulating for over a decade.
The theory appears to have gained traction in 2014, when a seven-minute video titled ‘JonBenét Ramsey is singer Katy Perry’ went viral, offering a series of claims linking Perry to JonBenét.
The video has since been taken down, but it alleged that Perry’s real parents were John and Patsy Ramsey, JonBenét’s parents. It further suggested that JonBenét’s ‘death’ was a ruse to propel her to fame.
Recently, an AI-generated video surfaced, showing JonBenét morphing into Perry, aiming to emphasize their physical similarities.
Supporters of this theory cite resemblances in the bone structures of Perry and JonBenét, particularly their eyebrows, jaws, and noses.
Another piece of ‘evidence’ comes from a 2011 Vanity Fair interview, where Perry reportedly mentioned JonBenét, who was known as a child beauty queen before her death.
Perry stated: “Not that I was one of those stage kids. There was no JonBenét Ramsey inside of me waiting to burst out.”
Some theorists interpret this as a subtle nod to her supposed true identity, despite Perry implying the opposite of being JonBenét.
Despite the extensive discussions by Boulder police on JonBenét’s death, the theory captivated the internet and managed to convince many users.
In 2022, a Twitter user stated: “Before we end 2022 I just wanna say that JonBenet Ramsey is actually Katy Perry…”
Another user wrote a detailed thread on the theory: “Why we know that Katy Perry is JonBenét Ramsey, a thread.”
Reacting to the AI-generated video, Perry herself commented: “wait am i.”
Beyond the police’s confirmation of JonBenét’s death, there are several issues with the theory.
Firstly, Perry was born in 1984, making her five years older than JonBenét, who was born in August 1990.
Additionally, Perry was born in California, while JonBenét was born in Atlanta, Georgia.
Lastly, Perry has her own parents, Mary Christine (née Perry) and Maurice Keith Hudson.
