Chris Hemsworth has revealed an unexpected reason for regretting a selfie he took with Billie Eilish.
Despite his reputation as a quintessential “Hollywood heartthrob,” particularly after portraying the muscular God of Thunder, Thor, throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe films, the 41-year-old Australian actor experiences awkward moments just like everyone else.
During his appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Wednesday (March 26), Hemsworth participated in the host’s rapid-fire question segment where he recounted an embarrassing interaction with 23-year-old music sensation Billie Eilish.
The Avengers star explained that the uncomfortable incident occurred at the 2024 Oscars when they captured a selfie together—and surprisingly, it wasn’t his appearance or any wardrobe issue that continues to mortify Hemsworth.
When Colbert inquired if Hemsworth had ever requested someone’s autograph, he initially downplayed the question, mentioning that he had asked a football player “a long time ago” before divulging his uncomfortable encounter with Eilish.
Hemsworth elaborated: “Actually, I got a photograph with Billie Eilish at the Oscars. And I remember thinking, ‘Ah don’t do it, don’t do it,’ but then I was like, ‘No, my kids are gonna love this.'”
The actor shares daughter India, 12, and twin sons Sasha and Tristan, 11, with his wife Elsa Pataky, who are apparently devoted fans of the Californian musician.
However, immediately after taking the picture, the regret set in.
Hemsworth continued: “And then the moment I took it, I was like, ah, I went from work colleague to now like, a fan.”
He expressed concern that the “fan selfie” has potentially ruined his chances of developing a friendship with the “Bad Guy” singer, adding: “We will never be friends, never be best friends.”
When Colbert followed up by asking if they had previously collaborated professionally, Hemsworth laughed and clarified: “No, you know, same industry kind of colleague. Bumping shoulders.”
This isn’t the first instance where the actor has photographed himself with fellow “industry” celebrities, even breaking Met Gala protocols last year during what appeared to be a selfie expedition.
In a conversation with E! News during the May event, Hemsworth admitted: “Selfies everywhere. A lot of selfies in my phone. Like, ‘When did I take that? Let’s delete that one.'”
The father of three explained that he was compelled to violate the strict Met Gala rule because he and Elsa reside in Australia and were caught up in the excitement of the occasion.
“So any sort of big awards show, we haven’t become jaded because it’s still new and exciting,” he shared. “And this in particular, eclectic group of people, different than the normal crowd of, you know, film award shows we’ve been doing… sports people, musicians, artists, so we had a really fun night.”
