‘Hero’ delivery driver lauded for ‘saving woman’s life’ after she mouthed ‘help me’ leading to man’s arrest

An Amazon delivery driver played a crucial role in potentially saving a woman’s life, according to law enforcement, after responding to a situation involving a customer in need.

In the previous month, the driver, whose name has not been disclosed, contacted 911 to report that a woman had quietly requested him to “help me” while he was delivering a package at her residence in Indian River County, Florida.

The driver conveyed to the police dispatcher: “She came to me and she said, ‘If I can ask you a favor to call the police to come to her house’. I don’t know what happened exactly.”

He explained that the woman tried to communicate discreetly, so as not to alert anyone else within the house, including a man who was present.

On March 28, officers visited the location, where they encountered a couple seated on the front porch.

The woman in the couple was the same individual who had sought the driver’s assistance. Police observed that she had red marks on her neck and appeared visibly distressed.

43-year-old Frank Mandolini was subsequently detained by deputies on a felony domestic battery charge.

Once separated from Mandolini, the woman relayed details of an alleged domestic incident to the officers.

She claimed Mandolini became aggressive after she confronted him about using his phone and tablet to engage with other women or watch pornography. During the altercation, she alleged that he grabbed her neck, dragged her down, and choked her until she nearly lost consciousness.

Mandolini admitted to choking the woman but denied obstructing her ability to breathe.

In response to the incident, Amazon spokesman Austin Stowe emphasized the training Amazon drivers receive for handling critical situations.

He stated: “All drivers delivering on behalf of Amazon undergo comprehensive training in de-escalation techniques and safety protocols.

“In the rare event that a driver encounters an issue during their delivery [they are able to contact a 24/7 Amazon Safety Helpline for immediate assistance].”

Stowe also noted that Amazon has previously recognized employees for their commendable actions.

Sheriff Eric Flowers echoed this sentiment, commending the driver’s actions.

He remarked: “That guy’s truly a hero. This guy probably saved her life. Kudos to him.”
