The spouse of a man mistakenly deported to a notorious prison has spoken out again after her home address was inadvertently leaked on Twitter due to a government error.
Kilmar Armando Abrego García, a Maryland resident, was wrongfully sent to the Center for Terrorism Confinement (CECOT) in El Salvador last month and remains there today.
The mega jail in El Salvador has received over 250 individuals deported as part of a mass deportation initiative linked to President Trump’s administration, utilizing a legal provision last implemented during World War II.
Although García entered the U.S. illegally around 2011 and had multiple encounters with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, a judge ruled in 2019 that he should not be deported due to threats from a gang in his home country.
Jennifer Vasquez Sura, García’s wife, has frequently spoken to the media since his deportation occurred due to an ‘administrative error’.
Sura, who married García at an ICE detention facility, has recently relocated to a safe house after her address was included in a court document shared by the Trump Administration on Twitter.
The 2021 protective order was posted to the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) 2.4 million followers on the platform.
In an exclusive interview with The Washington Post, Sura expressed: “I don’t feel safe when the government posts my address, the house where my family lives, for everyone to see, especially when this case has gone viral and people have all sorts of opinions.
“So, this is definitely a bit terrifying. I’m scared for my kids.”
UNILAD has reached out to the DHS for comment, while a statement from the department to The Independent noted ‘these are public documents that anyone could get access to’.
Despite acknowledging an ‘admin error’ led to García’s deportation to Central America, the Trump Administration maintains that García is affiliated with the MS-13 gang.
Using Truth Social, Trump posted a picture of himself holding an image he claims is García’s hand, stating: “This is the hand of the man that the Democrats feel should be brought back to the United States, because he is such ‘a fine and innocent person’.
“They said he is not a member of MS-13, even though he’s got MS-13 tattooed onto his knuckles, and two Highly Respected Courts found that he was a member of MS-13, beat up his wife, etc. I was elected to take bad people out of the United States, among other things.
“I must be allowed to do my job. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
