Why Pedro Pascal launched a fierce critique at JK Rowling over trans controversy as personal ties are revealed

Pedro Pascal has voiced his strong opinions about JK Rowling, and there’s a significant reason for his recent criticism.

The author of Harry Potter, Rowling, recently expressed her support for the UK Supreme Court’s decision regarding the legal definition of a woman.

The UK Supreme Court judges stated that the ‘concept of sex is binary’ and concluded that a trans woman with a Gender Recognition Certificate (GRC) ‘does not come within the definition of a woman’.

Essentially, the court determined that only those assigned female at birth fall under the legal definition of a woman.

Rowling’s past remarks about the transgender community have led to accusations of transphobia. She was quick to share her views on the Supreme Court’s decision last week.

On Twitter, Rowling praised the ‘three extraordinary, tenacious Scottish women with an army behind them to get this case heard by the Supreme Court and, in winning, they’ve protected the rights of women and girls across the UK’.

She also said: “@ForWomenScot, I’m so proud to know you.”

Pascal, known for his role in The Last of Us, criticized Rowling by commenting on a video posted by writer and activist Tariq Ra’ouf, who described the author’s remarks as ‘Voldemort villain s**t’.

“Awful disgusting S**T is exactly right. Heinous LOSER behavior,” Pascal commented.

Pascal’s sister Lux identified as non-binary in 2020 and came out as transgender in 2021.

Lux discussed her brother’s support during her transition with Chilean magazine Revista Ya: “He was one of the first people to gift me the tools that started shaping my identity.”

Lux recounted how she came out to her brother, and his reaction was notably supportive.

“When I officially told him about my transition through FaceTime, he asked me how I felt… because I remember that he was worried,” Lux stated.

“I told him, ‘I’m happy.’ And his answer was: ‘Perfect, this is incredible’.”

In an interview with Esquire, Pascal was asked about Lux’s experience with the public’s response to her transition.

“She is and has always been one of the most powerful people and personalities I’ve ever known,” the actor expressed, emphasizing that it wasn’t his role to ‘speak on her behalf’.

“My protective side is lethal, but I need her more than she needs me,” Pascal concluded.
