For those who might not know, Ozempic is a drug originally intended for individuals with Type 2 diabetes. However, it has gained popularity as a weight-loss aid, with numerous people, including celebrities, utilizing it to shed weight.
The medication contains semaglutide, an active ingredient also present in other weight loss treatments.
In recent years, many have voiced concerns about the significant side effects associated with Ozempic, with one frequently discussed effect being ‘Ozempic face’.
This term refers to the impact the drug can have on a person’s skin, particularly in terms of appearance.
According to Health.com, some individuals have reported experiencing ‘Ozempic face’ and ‘Ozempic butt’, which involve loose, sagging, or aging skin on the face and buttocks due to rapid weight loss.
“The skin has less tissue to cover in either case, which can make it sag or seem less plump,” the site explains.
The New York Post reports an increase in people seeking cosmetic treatments to address the effects of Ozempic.
Dr. Patrick Byrne, president of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, notes that patients often complain of looking ‘hollowed’ out with sunken cheeks and gaunt appearances.
“It’s far more dramatic and rapid weight loss than one typically sees,” Byrne stated. “Changes in the face seem to be more enhanced because of it.”
Consequently, many are opting for treatments such as fillers, particularly those containing hyaluronic acid.
Dr. Byrne also mentions that lasers can be beneficial, stating: “We can stimulate collagen production, tighten the skin and address concerns like wrinkles.”
For those hesitant to use fillers or lasers, microfocused ultrasound devices, which send ultrasound waves deep into the skin, offer another method for tightening sagging skin.
Patient Lindsey Sikora described her outcomes as ‘dramatic’, saying: “It started to tuck everything back into place and lift it where it was supposed to be. The results are dramatic.”
Moreover, surgical options like face, neck, and brow lifts are effective, with Dr. Byrne explaining: “With a lot of volume loss, especially when the skin elasticity has declined, surgical options tend to be most effective.”
While many are aware of Ozempic’s effectiveness, the mechanism by which it aids weight loss is less understood.
A YouTuber, known as @ZackDFilms, has provided insights into the effects of Ozempic, demonstrating the changes it induces in the brain and body.
In his video, viewers can observe the internal changes, including those in the brain and organs, as well as some less pleasant side effects.
He explains: “Once Ozempic is in your bloodstream, it activates the part of the brain that makes you feel full, reducing your appetite.”
