Rockstar Games has announced the release date for Grand Theft Auto VI, and the news may not be what fans were hoping for.
Enthusiasts around the world have been eagerly awaiting the launch of GTA VI. Rockstar Games has now provided a major update on the release timeline, confirming that it won’t be available until next year.
In a statement shared on Instagram today (May 2), the company stated, “Grand Theft Auto VI is now set to release on May 26, 2026.
“We are very sorry that this is later than you expected. The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team. We want to thank you for your support and your patience as we work to finish the game.
“With every game we have released, the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception. We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.
“We look forward to sharing more information with you soon. Sincerely, Rockstar.”
Many gaming fans have quickly voiced their disappointment over the delay.
One individual commented on the Instagram announcement, “This game ain’t ever coming out at this rate!!!”
Another echoed the sentiment, writing, “This game is never coming out bro.”
A third person remarked, “I read that as 2025 and lost my mind! Ugh!”
Some were less surprised by the news, while other GTA fans praised Rockstar for the delay, recognizing the importance of releasing a polished game.
One person commented on the delayed release, “Good. Better than other companies releasing unfinished buggy games.”
Another wrote, “At least we have a date! I hope they don’t postpone it again, because then we will be obliged to hold a demonstration.”
While Rockstar Games has finally provided a release date for the highly anticipated game, they have yet to disclose the price for GTA VI.
According to one expert, it could potentially cost $100.
Michael Pachter, the managing director of equity research at Wedbush Securities, stated, “We think the company has plans to sell the game at a previously unheard of price point, and suspect that management can offer consumers an incentive to pay $100 or more per unit by rewarding them with a large amount of in-game currency to be spent in GTA Online.”
