John Cena faces lawsuit from Ford over sale of rare 2017 Ford GT supercar

In April, John Cena set a new record by clinching his 17th WWE Championship, but his journey hasn’t been without obstacles, such as his legal tussle with Ford.

At 48, Cena surpassed Ric Flair after defeating Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania, becoming the holder of the most world titles in WWE history.

Cena plans to retire by year’s end, though he’s also recognized for his roles in films like Suicide Squad and Fast and Furious. Additionally, he’s known for a controversial incident where Ford sued him for selling his rare 2017 supercar.

Cena bought the Ford GT during its release year, a car valued at over $450,000.

Ford produced limited quantities of the GT, and buyers faced strict conditions.

Owners were selected through an application process, and one condition was not to resell within two years.

Cena violated this by selling his car for a profit shortly after purchase, breaching his agreement with Ford.

This led to a lawsuit from Ford.

Forbes reported that the lawsuit claimed Cena “unfairly made a large profit from the unauthorized resale flip of the vehicle,” resulting in Ford alleging losses including “loss of brand value, ambassador activity, and customer goodwill.”

Ford initially sought $500,000 in damages, but both parties settled out of court the next year.

The settlement funds were donated to charity, and Cena issued a public apology.

He expressed, “I love the Ford GT and apologise to Ford, and encourage others who own the car to respect the contract. I am pleased we could resolve this matter outside of court, and that a worthy charity will benefit from one of the most iconic cars in the world.”
