Lady Gaga’s team has responded after police confirmed they stopped a planned bomb attack at one of her concerts.
On May 3, Lady Gaga performed her largest show to date at Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The event was initially seen as a major triumph for the pop star.
However, authorities later disclosed that there was a plan to carry out a ‘bomb attack’ aimed at her fans. Approximately 2.1 million people attended the concert.
The most alarming aspect of the plot was that the perpetrators intended to use minors to execute the attack.
In a Twitter announcement, officials stated: “OPERATION FAKE MONSTER | The Rio de Janeiro Civil Police, in conjunction with the Ministry of Justice, prevented a bomb attack that was planned to occur at Lady Gaga’s show in Copacabana, South Zone RJ.”
“The person responsible for the plan was arrested, and a teenager was detained.”
Authorities, working in partnership with the justice ministry, revealed: “The suspects were recruiting participants, including minors, to carry out coordinated attacks using improvised explosives and Molotov cocktails.”
Fortunately, the bomb plot came to light due to a tip-off from Rio state police intelligence.
However, Lady Gaga’s representative confirmed that the singer and her team were not informed by police about the threat, even though they collaborated on the concert’s security preparations.
The representative told the Hollywood Reporter: “We learned about this alleged threat via media reports this morning.
“Prior to and during the show, there were no known safety concerns, nor any communication from the police or authorities to Lady Gaga regarding any potential risks. Her team worked closely with law enforcement throughout the planning and execution of the concert and all parties were confident in the safety measures in place.”
Gaga chose not to mention the foiled terrorism plot in her Instagram message, opting instead to express gratitude to her fans for their support.
She wrote: “Nothing could prepare me for the feeling I had during last night’s show—the absolute pride and joy I felt singing for the people of Brazil. The sight of the crowd during my opening songs took my breath away.
“Your heart shines so bright, your culture is so vibrant and special, I hope you know how grateful I am to have shared this historical moment with you. An estimated 2.5 million people came to see me sing, the biggest crowd for any woman in history. I wish I could share this feeling with the whole world…
“Thank you Rio for waiting for me to come back. Thank you little monsters all over the world. I love you. I will never forget this moment. Paws up little monsters. Obrigada. Love, Mother Monster.”
