Dylan O’Brien’s transgender sibling has expressed disapproval over O’Brien’s comments regarding his connections within the LGBTQ+ community.
In the previous year, O’Brien appeared in Ponyboi, a thriller centered on a young intersex sex worker on the run from a mob after a drug deal goes awry.
River Gallo takes on the role of Ponyboi, while O’Brien portrays Vinny. The film also includes performances by Victoria Pedretti of You and The Haunting of Bly Manor fame, Murray Bartlett from The White Lotus, and Indya Moore, known for starring in Pose.
During the period around its release, the cast participated in an interview with Vulture, where O’Brien discussed having a trans sibling.
“I have a trans, non-binary sibling,” he revealed. “And I know people in my personal life as well who are queer, and I’m so grateful for how much it deepens my experience in this world.”
Co-star Gallo praised O’Brien, calling him ‘an example of what so many men should be’.
The interview from January 2024 has recently gained attention following the Gay Times’ publication of an article highlighting O’Brien’s gratitude for his trans sibling, Julz.
Recently, Julz has raised questions about the commendations O’Brien has received.
In a response to a now-deleted Instagram post by Gay Times, Julz commented: “[Dylan] also hasn’t spoken to me in over a year. He didn’t check in when I had top surgery.
“He didn’t even wish me a happy bday last week! But glad I could deepen his experience in the world and make the world love him that much more.”
Based on Julz’s Instagram, they underwent top surgery in December 2024.
Additionally, Julz clarified their identity as trans/masc, using he/they pronouns, as reported by Pink News.
Supporting Julz’s assertion of being out of contact, O’Brien hasn’t appeared on Julz’s Instagram since July 2023.
The image in question features O’Brien holding a pint of Guinness while Julz is seen with friends.
LADbible group has reached out to O’Brien’s representatives for a response.
Another actor, Pedro Pascal of The Last of Us, has also spoken about having loved ones in the LGBTQ+ community, including his trans sister.
Pascal has expressed that he is ‘lethally’ protective of his sister Lux, whom he describes as one of the ‘most powerful people and personalities I’ve ever known’.
