Lip reader ‘discloses’ what Denzel Washington yelled at photographer during intense Cannes red carpet encounter

A misunderstanding seemed to spark an intense confrontation involving Denzel Washington and a photographer.

During the Cannes Film Festival on May 19, Denzel Washington had a public altercation with a photographer while attending the premiere of his film, Highest 2 Lowest.

Accompanied by co-star A$AP Rocky, Washington was suddenly pulled by his suit jacket by a photographer.

This seemingly minor action escalated the situation.

According to lip reader Jeremy Freeman, who spoke to Mail Online, Washington addressed the photographer during the confrontation.

Freeman suggests that Washington said to the photographers: “Hey, one – one more time, stop.

“Let me tell you – stop, stop – never put your hands on me again.”

The interaction saw Washington pointing his finger at the photographer, who responded with a smile, seemingly not taking the actor seriously.

Washington further asserted: “I’m talking to you, stop, all right.”

Freeman also mentions the photographer’s response to Washington, noting he said ‘not allowed’ and laughed, adding: “Yes, yes, yes.”

The situation intensified, clearly causing more frustration for Washington.

According to Freeman, the photographer later grabbed Washington again, seemingly asking ‘can I take a picture?’

Attempting to maintain composure, Washington brushed off the interaction, firmly stating: “Stop, stop it, stop it. I mean it. Stop, stop it.”

The video capturing this incident has gained traction on social media, attracting various opinions on the unexpected confrontation.

One viewer commented: “He clearly said ‘don’t ever put your hands on me again’ and he did it again to provoke him into a moment. YUCK.”

Another person remarked: “I don’t get that stuff. These folks are around people all day, every day grabbing at them and asking them for stuff. Not a life I’d ever want, I see stuff like how Denzel reacted and I give him the total pass.”

A third individual joked: “Denzel ‘UNHAND ME’ Washington lol.”

After the event, Washington received an honorary Palme d’Or from frequent collaborator Spike Lee, which he described as a ‘total surprise’.

Expressing his gratitude, he said: “I’m a little emotional, but from the bottom of my heart, I thank you all.

“You know, we’re just blessed beyond measure, I’m blessed beyond measure.”
