Elon Musk has commented after reversing his previous explosive statement concerning President Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein.
With Trump’s return to the presidency for a second term, Musk was appointed as the head of the newly established Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). This department aims to address ‘wasteful spending’ across various government sectors.
As Tesla showrooms faced vandalism throughout the United States, President Trump supported Musk by condemning these actions as domestic terrorism.
By the close of May, Musk’s involvement with the Trump administration had concluded, a development that was largely anticipated.
However, the aftermath of Musk’s departure led to unexpected turmoil.
Musk voiced his disapproval of Trump’s ‘one big beautiful bill,’ which features several temporary tax reductions until 2028 and a tax freeze for overtime workers. He described it as a ‘disgusting abomination’.
In response, Trump expressed disappointment with Musk’s remarks. Musk retaliated on social media, making bold accusations against the President, alleging that the 78-year-old was involved in the Jeffrey Epstein files.
“Time to drop the really big bomb: @realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files,” Musk claimed on social media. “That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT!”
Musk followed up with another tweet: “Mark this post for the future. The truth will come out.”
The tweets have since been deleted, with Musk not providing any evidence for these assertions. The White House’s Press Secretary, Karoline Leavitt, also dismissed the claims in a statement.
Now, in a moment of reflection, Musk admitted regretting some of his previous comments.
“I regret some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump last week. They went too far,” he acknowledged on the platform today (June 11).
Responding to questions from the press in the Oval Office, Trump was asked if their relationship was over in light of everything that happened.
“I would assume so, yeah,” Trump replied. “I’m too busy doing other things.
“You know, I won an election in a landslide. I gave him [Musk] a lot of breaks, long before this happened, I gave him breaks in my first administration, and saved his life in my first administration, I have no intention of speaking to him.”
Trump further mentioned that there would be ‘serious consequences’ for Musk if he chose to support any future Democratic campaigns, though he did not specify what those consequences might entail.
