Revealing Trump Approval Ratings Highlight US Sentiment 5 Months into Presidency

A recent poll has shed light on American public opinion regarding Donald Trump, several months into his second term in the White House.

After defeating Kamala Harris in last November’s presidential election, Trump, representing the Republican party, pledged to chart a new course distinct from his predecessor Joe Biden. He quickly set about implementing numerous and often contentious changes.

Among his latest initiatives is the ‘Big Beautiful Bill’, which resulted in a public disagreement with Elon Musk, who criticized it as an ‘abomination’.

Additionally, his stringent immigration policies have dominated news cycles, particularly following anti-ICE protests in Los Angeles sparked by local raids, heightening tensions between law enforcement and demonstrators.

While Trump maintains that these initiatives are steps to ‘Make America Great Again’, not all Americans are in favor of the changes he has enacted since returning to the Oval Office.

A Quinnipiac University poll released on Wednesday (June 11) indicated that only 38 percent of Americans support Trump’s performance as president, while 54 percent express disapproval.

However, what do Americans think about specific policies and political areas?

According to the poll, Trump is not viewed favorably in terms of economic management, with only 38 percent backing his trade policy.

Immigration, typically an area of strength for Trump in polls, has also seen a decline in support.

Among those polled, 43 percent approved of Trump’s handling of immigration, whereas 54 percent were dissatisfied.

Trump’s approach to the Ukraine-Russia conflict is also viewed unfavorably, with just 34 percent of Americans approving of his strategy.

Polling analyst Tim Malloy commented: “As the Russia-Ukraine war grinds through its third year, Americans have little appetite for the way the Trump administration is handling the situation.”

Opinions were also sought on Musk’s role with the administration. Malloy observed: “Though Musk isn’t as popular with Republicans as he once was, he and DOGE get a hearty high five from a healthy majority of Republicans.”

These opinion polls have led one strategist to predict the eventual ‘collapse’ of the Trump administration.

Political consultant James Carville suggested that the Democrats need only ‘play possum’ and watch the situation unfold.

It is clear that with Trump as president, there is never a dull moment.
