Additional heartbreaking details surrounding Anne Burrell’s passing have come to light.
The cherished celebrity chef unexpectedly passed away on Tuesday (June 17) at the age of 55. She was widely recognized for her appearances on Food Network shows such as Secrets of a Restaurant Chef and Worst Cooks in America.
Burrell’s family released a touching statement to announce her passing.
“Anne was a beloved wife, sister, daughter, stepmother, and friend — her smile lit up every room she entered,” the statement read.
Her family added, “Anne’s light radiated far beyond those she knew, touching millions across the world. Though she is no longer with us, her warmth, spirit, and boundless love remain eternal.”
Just a few days prior to her death, Burrell posted a cheerful Instagram photo with the New York icon known as ‘The Green Lady of Brooklyn’.
What was once a joyful post has been flooded with tributes honoring the late TV personality.
Burrell is survived by her children Isabella, Amelia, and Nicolas, her husband Stuart Claxton, and her stepson Javier.
It was Claxton who found Burrell in their New York apartment. According to reports from TMZ, he last saw his wife at 1am on June 17 and discovered her unresponsive, cold body in the shower six or seven hours later.
Sources speaking to the publication stated that when Claxton contacted 911, he was instructed to perform CPR on his wife of four years.
Though the cause of Burrell’s death has not been officially disclosed, it is believed that the 55-year-old might have suffered a cardiac arrest, according to a representative from the NYC Fire Department.
Following Burrell’s sudden death, the Food Network paid tribute to the celebrity chef.
The network stated: “Anne was a remarkable person and culinary talent – teaching, competing and always sharing the importance of food in her life and the joy that a delicious meal can bring.
“Our thoughts are with Anne’s family, friends and fans during this time of tremendous loss.”
Although Burrell is best known for her culinary career, she originally obtained a degree in English and Communications. After graduating from Canisius College in Buffalo, she decided to attend culinary school to fulfill her dream of becoming a chef.
She enrolled at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, graduating in 1996.
Burrell went on to work at several renowned New York City restaurants before launching her television career in 2004 on Iron Chef America.
