Trump followers disclose the ‘red line’ that could end their support, sparking ‘disturbing’ reactions

Supporters of Trump are sharing what might lead them to stop backing the president.

Although it has only been eight months since President Trump secured the 2024 election, his approval ratings are already on the decline.

A recent poll conducted by Emerson College Polling indicates that 45 percent of respondents approved of Trump’s handling of the U.S., while 46 percent disapproved. The remaining nine percent were uncertain.

Additionally, 45 percent of those surveyed believe the nation is headed in the wrong direction.

Another poll from Quinnipiac University earlier this month also portrayed a grim picture, revealing that only 38 percent of Americans approve of Trump’s presidency, representing the lowest approval in decades.

In light of these statistics, Trump supporters have turned to Reddit to discuss the circumstances under which they might cease to support the president — or what has already caused them to do so.

Someone on Reddit wrote: “Trump supporters: what is a red line that, if crossed, would make you stop supporting Trump?”

One individual mentioned that they asked this question to their father, who is ‘as big a Trump supporter as anyone can claim’.

“If the cuts to Medicaid and Social Security go through, he will lose his faith in Trump,” they commented.

Another person also posed this question to their Trump-supporting parents. Sharing their answer, the Redditor stated: “I asked them this question and the answer probably wouldn’t surprise anyone: Their redline is socialist/liberal policy and/or practice. Nationalized healthcare. Wealth tax. Supporting unions. Federal regulation in general, but especially federal regulation of media.

“Supporting equal rights policies. Supporting voter protections and vote by mail. Immigration that is inclusive rather than exclusive. Etc. To my folks liberalism is a disease, an evil that needs to be wiped out of the country by any and all means necessary.”

A fellow Reddit user described their response as ‘freaking disturbing’. Another individual, who has already lost confidence in Trump, shared: “I used to be a Trump supporter and voted for him in 2020. January 6th was my red line.

“He and his supporters showed contempt for democracy that day. Since then, I’ve deconstructed much of my religion and politics have come with it – I now consider myself a moderate Democrat.”

“I already know some Republicans that support Ukraine and totally flipped on Trump today after that disgraceful meeting with Zelensky,” added another person, referring to the turbulent meeting between the two leaders back in February.
