Pamela Anderson, known for her career in acting and modeling, has chosen to stop wearing makeup, marking a significant change in her life.
This decision has led to varied reactions; many of her admirers have commended her choice, while others were surprised by her decision to attend high-profile events without makeup. Despite this, the Baywatch actress remains committed to her choice.
At 58, Anderson has been candid about her decision to embrace her natural appearance as she ages. In an interview with The New York Times, she shared: “The things that are happening to my face — a little elasticity is leaving — I’m finding humor in that. I feel sexier now that I have some secrets and some mystery.”
Although Anderson is content with her choice, she revealed on the How To Fail with Elizabeth Day podcast that she faced judgment from those who were ‘horrified’ by her decision.
Anderson described her new attitude towards beauty as a ‘rebel move,’ emphasizing: “What is beauty? Beauty’s subjective, and we don’t have to look like the covers of magazines.”
Though she holds firm in her beliefs, some have reacted negatively to her decision.
She further explained: “We don’t have to do the industry standard, which everybody was so horrified when I decided I didn’t need a glam team for certain events.”
Despite the criticism, Anderson chose to overlook the negativity, focusing instead on cultural experiences, such as exploring architecture during her time in Paris.
“I thought, who’s looking at me? […] That’s what started at Paris Fashion Week and it just sent everybody scrambling around me, thinking ‘no this is not what people do’, and I said well ‘that gives me more reason to do it’,” Anderson remarked.
Anderson clarified that she is not opposed to makeup entirely, expressing that she enjoys getting ‘dressed up and glammed up.’ However, she felt it was important to use her celebrity status to foster discussions about authentic beauty, beyond the superficial standards often portrayed on social media.
“I really want to know who I am, and I’m just discovering that now,” she stated. “It’s not that I’m letting myself go […] I’m just peeling it back to see who I am. It’s a starting position.”
