Trump criticized for ‘disrespectful’ remarks on Texas floods after previous comment sparked outrage

Donald Trump has faced backlash for making ‘disrespectful’ comments regarding the Texas floods, after a previous remark had already provoked strong reactions.

The flash floods in central Texas have led to the deaths of at least 129 people, with search efforts ongoing for over 150 missing individuals.

These floods have devastated the area, washing away mobile homes, vehicles, and holiday cabins occupied by Americans celebrating Independence Day.

Officials reported that a month’s worth of rain fell within hours, causing the Guadalupe River to rise to a perilous 26 feet.

President Trump visited the flood-stricken area on Friday, July 11, and later discussed the tragedy with his daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, during an appearance on Fox News’ My View.

When asked to address the families of the victims, Trump commented: “There can be nothing worse, losing a child. Maybe they should’ve had bells or something go off. But it’s pretty dangerous territory when you think of all the times they have had this problem.”

Many online have criticized the statement as ‘disrespectful,’ along with other comments the president made about the disaster.

In Kerrville, Trump told reporters: “Following a torrential downpour the worst that anyone has ever seen, Guadalupe River rose 26 feet in less than 45 minutes, and I even heard it went well over 30 feet.

“There is one story, where one person said it had to be 60 feet at one moment.

“This is like a giant, giant wave in the Pacific Ocean, that the best surfers in the world would be afraid to surf.”

Trump’s analogy has left many on social media perplexed and has prompted strong reactions. One Twitter user said: “This makes me want to throw up.”

Another user commented: “Trump’s out here describing floods like they’re a ride at an amusement park. Meanwhile, people are drowning.”

Another individual mocked the president, stating: “I didn’t realize how terrifying it must have been until I realized that even surfers wouldn’t surf it!”

During his visit to the flood site, Trump remarked: “I’ve never seen anything like it.”

First Lady Melania Trump also accompanied him and expressed condolences to the victims’ families: “My deepest sympathy to all of the parents who lost beautiful young souls.

“We are grieving with you. Our nation is grieving with you.”
