Man who beheaded father and displayed head online is sentenced after revealing his motives

A man convicted of murdering his father and then decapitating him after a dispute over political views has been sentenced to prison.

In January of the previous year, Justin D. Mohn killed his father, Michael F. Mohn, who was a former engineer with the geoenvironmental section of the US Army Corps of Engineers’ Philadelphia District.

Following the murder, Mohn, 33, who was residing with his parents at the time, uploaded a disturbing video to YouTube. The footage showed him holding his father’s severed head and making a series of demands.

The unsettling 14-minute clip, titled ‘Mohn’s Militia – Call To Arms for American Patriots’, included calls for federal employees to step down and demands for the cancellation of public debt, among other statements.

In Bucks County, Pennsylvania, Mohn received a life sentence on July 11 with no possibility of parole.

Judge Stephen Corr sentenced Mohn to two life terms for first- and second-degree murder, along with 10 additional charges, including decapitation and terrorism, due to the video he posted online.

During the sentencing, Judge Corr highlighted the anguish Mohn caused his parents and family, acknowledging the unconditional love and support they had always given him.

“What you did to your mother is unspeakable,” Judge Corr remarked.

In addition to the life sentences, Mohn received a maximum of 40 years for the other charges.

Mohn later explained his actions, stating that he believed his father was attempting to stop him from becoming like Donald Trump, as reported by the New York Post.

During the trial, he expressed that his political beliefs differed from his parents, whom he described as left-wing, and he felt his father was trying to hinder his political aspirations.

While on the stand, he denied the murder charge and described the killing as a ‘plan B’ after a failed ‘citizen’s arrest’ on his father.

“Unfortunately, he resisted,” Mohn stated, adding, “I was hoping to perform a citizen’s arrest on my father for, ultimately, treason,” according to ABC News.

The confrontation reportedly escalated when Michael threatened him and attempted to seize his 9mm handgun, Mohn claimed.

When questioned by his attorney, Mohn recounted that he shot his father from the bathroom of their Levittown home.

“I unfortunately had to use deadly force,” Mohn testified in Bucks County Court, Pennsylvania.
