Donald Trump has sparked controversy with his remarks that ‘only bad people’ are interested in the rumored Epstein files. These comments have left many questioning his intentions.
Attorney General Pam Bondi mentioned five months ago that the Epstein files were supposedly on her desk. Recently, she clarified that a client list never existed, stating she had been referring to the general case file at the time. This explanation hasn’t appeased many of Trump’s supporters. House Speaker Mike Johnson even called for the full release of the files on July 15.
Since Epstein’s death in 2019 and Maxwell’s conviction in 2021, numerous conspiracy theories have suggested that Epstein had a ‘client list’ comprising the names of influential individuals. Earlier this month, the Department of Justice denied the existence of such a list and stated they would not release any additional files related to the case.
On Truth Social, Trump defended the decision: “For years, it’s Epstein, over and over again. Why are we giving publicity to Files written by Obama, Crooked Hillary, Comey, Brennan, and the Losers and Criminals of the Biden administration.”
Trump also praised Bondi, stating she has ‘handled it very well’ and that it is up to her to decide what further details, if any, should be disclosed.
The conversation took an interesting turn when a reporter inquired if Bondi had mentioned his name appearing in the files. Trump dismissed the suggestion, commenting: “No, no, she’s given us just a very quick briefing and in terms of the credibility of the different things that they’ve seen and I would say that, you know these files were made up by Comey, they were made up by Obama, they were made up by Biden – we went through years of that with the Russia hoax and all the things that we had to go through, we’ve gone through years of it.”
After a brief pause, Trump said, “But she’s [Bondi] handled it very well, and it’s going to be up to her whatever she thinks is credible, she should release.”
In further remarks, Trump expressed confusion over the ongoing interest in the Epstein files. “He’s [been] dead for a long time, he was never a big factor in terms of life,” he said. He continued, “The credible information has been given. Don’t forget we went through years of the Mueller witch hunt and all of the different things, the Steele Dossier which was all fake, all that information was fake. I don’t know why the Jeffrey Epstein case would be of interest to anybody. It’s pretty boring stuff.”
Reiterating his stance, Trump claimed that ‘only pretty bad people including fake news’ are keeping the story alive.
“But credible information, let them give it. Anything that’s credible, I would say let them have it,” he added.
On Reddit, Trump’s comments have stirred discussions. One user stated, “If it’s boring, release the files in whole. Shouldn’t matter either way right? Bore us to tears.” Another noted, “Also note that he’s already trying to taint the credibility of the files by saying it’s an Obama/Biden hack job.” Someone else pointed out, “If there is no reason as for why MAGAts are so interested in it (as he claimed), then there’s no reason as to why he won’t release it.” A third person commented, “We all know there aren’t any files right? It’s hilarious that Trump has bungled this so badly that he now looks like he is covering up evidence against him, but the actual ‘Epstein files’ are only as real as ‘Hunter Biden’s laptop.’”
