Netflix Fans Outraged as Classic 00s Comedy Series with 97% RT Score and 170 Million Hours Streamed Exits Platform

Netflix has announced the removal of a beloved 2000s series from its library, leaving many fans discontent.

Although the streaming service regularly updates its content, the decision to pull this popular comedy has been met with disappointment by some subscribers.

The removal is likely due to an expiring licensing agreement, but viewers are upset that they will no longer be able to enjoy binge-watching the show featuring America Ferrera, known for her role in Barbie.

The series, which consists of all four seasons, was added to Netflix US in August 2023. According to FlixPatrol, the show has been viewed for an astounding 173,300,000 hours since its addition.

The storyline centers on Ferrera’s character, a bright and quirky Mexican-American woman who secures a job in the fashion industry, despite lacking personal fashion sense.

Hailing from Queens, she starts working for Mode, a prestigious Manhattan magazine, as the assistant to editor-in-chief Daniel Meade, played by Eric Mabius.

Throughout her journey, her kindness and integrity are put to the test as she navigates the superficial world of fashion.

Originally airing on ABC from September 2006 to April 2010, the series comprised four seasons and 85 episodes.

The series in question is none other than Ugly Betty.

The show boasts a remarkable 97 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes across all four seasons and has been honored with over 50 awards, including three Emmys and two Golden Globes.

“It’s honest, endearing, entertaining, great writing, and the cast and acting is phenomenal,” one fan commented, adding: “Wish they’d make more shows like this now.”

Another viewer agreed, noting that “they really don’t make TV like this anymore,” and remarked, “This show was leaps and bounds ahead of its time, featuring a meaningfully diverse cast of loveably flawed characters. Do yourself a favor and watch this show ASAP.”

A third fan highlighted the show’s exceptional creativity, admitting, “We are just finishing up binge-watching all four seasons of Ugly Betty and we’re already starting to mourn.”

If you were planning on revisiting the series, time is running out—Ugly Betty will be leaving Netflix US on August 1.

On Reddit, fans took to the R/UglyBetty community to discuss the show’s impending removal. One user inquired, “Is Ugly Betty leaving Netflix? While logging into my Netflix, it said it was leaving soon?!”

After confirming the news, viewers expressed their frustration. “This news ruined my night,” one person shared. “It’s my comfort show, I was genuinely so moved when I watched and finished the show for the first time.”

Another viewer expressed disappointment, saying, “I just finished binge-watching it for the 100th time last night good timing since it’s going soon. So disappointing cause they never have it for long enough.”

A third lamented, “I’m so bummed. It’s my go-to feel good show. Booo Netflix!”

The entire series of Ugly Betty will remain available on Netflix US until August 1.
