Jess Glynne has expressed her disapproval of the Trump administration after the official White House social media account adopted a popular Jet2 Holidays meme.
Jet2 is a UK-based budget airline known for its flights to various European destinations.
Recently, many have encountered the ‘Nothing beats a Jet2 holiday’ soundbite on TikTok, which features a segment of Glynne’s track ‘Hold My Hand’.
This viral audio originates from an advertisement promoting discounts on family getaways and reliable package holidays. It’s a familiar sound for those active on the platform.
On platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube, users have employed the sound for videos showcasing travel mishaps and other humorous antics.
Despite its playful origins, the meme recently took a controversial turn when the official White House account paired the soundbite with a video of individuals being placed on a deportation flight.
“When ICE books you a one-way Jet2 holiday to deportation. Nothing beats it!” the White House captioned the video.
The video shows several handcuffed men being escorted onto a plane by armed officers, followed by a clip of Donald Trump pointing at the camera and giving a thumbs-up.
Glynne used her Instagram Stories on Wednesday (July 30) to express her displeasure with the White House’s use of the meme.
The singer remarked: “This post honestly makes me sick. My music is about love, unity, and spreading positivity – never about division or hate.”
Zoe Lister, the voice behind the well-known soundbite, also responded on Instagram, criticizing the White House’s use of the meme.
“What can be done about @whitehouse using @jet2pics sound and my voiceover to promote their nasty agenda?” the voiceover actor expressed on her Story.
Numerous individuals were shocked upon viewing the White House’s Twitter post, questioning how an official account could share such content.
“I thought this was a parody account,” one user commented, while another noted, “Our country is an embarrassment posting stuff like this.”
This contentious social media post coincides with recent unrest in Los Angeles, sparked by US Immigration and Customs (ICE) conducting raids throughout the city to locate undocumented migrants.
The Trump administration had previously announced plans to detain up to 3,000 individuals daily.
