Netflix viewers are currently captivated by a new South Korean action-thriller that recently premiered on the platform, and it has achieved a flawless score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Summertime is often slower for new releases on the streaming service, so any fresh content during July and August is eagerly anticipated.
Netflix may list its new shows online, but it’s also helpful to explore social media to see what audiences are buzzing about.
The latest buzz revolves around a new series named Trigger. This show follows a police officer’s encounter with a civilian who exposes a ‘societal evil at play,’ as reported by Tudum.
The officer’s initial assignment was to uncover why military-grade automatic weapons are increasingly reaching Korean citizens, despite South Korea’s reputation as one of the world’s safest countries.
With a cast including Kim Nam-gil, Kim Young-kwang, and Squid Game actors Lee Suk and Kim Joong-hee, Trigger boasts a remarkable lineup and a gripping storyline that initially left some fans ‘skeptical.’
Nevertheless, one viewer was particularly drawn to the show’s ‘bittersweet ending.’
A Twitter user wrote: “I was skeptical about the plot, but Netflix’s #Trigger was way better than I expected with a bittersweet ending. It definitely shows that the screenwriter & director are the same person. He did a great job bringing his vision to life.”
Following the premiere of the first episode, Trigger has garnered a 100 percent Rotten Tomatoes score, indicating high praise from industry critics.
In a review, Joel Keller from the Decider stated: “Trigger tries to address some big issues via what seems like a straightforward case about illegal weapons. But those big issues underpin what looks to be an action-filled thriller.”
Jonathon Wilson from Ready Steady Cut commented: “Trigger argues that any nation with easy access to guns would behave the same way, and perhaps Korea, with its wealth disparity, inordinately high suicide rate, and famously extreme academic pressure and career expectations, would fare worst of all.”
The Movies and Munchies YouTube channel noted: “The action overshadows [shortcomings] to deliver heart-pounding and gut-wrenching sequences that will pucker your butt thanks to the extreme anxiety.”
If you want to form your own opinion, Trigger is now available for streaming on Netflix.
