Acid attack survivor comments on Kim Kardashian’s controversial new product amid online backlash

An acid attack survivor has delivered a powerful message to Kim Kardashian’s beauty line, appealing to people not to be harsh to their faces.

Katie Piper, from London, England, fell victim to a brutal revenge scheme orchestrated by her former boyfriend, Daniel Lynch, in March 2008.

Now at 41, Piper is making an emotional request to those contemplating buying Kim Kardashian’s SKIMS seamless sculpt face wrap, which is priced at $48.

The product description states: “Our first-ever face innovation is here. This must-have face wrap boasts our signature sculpting fabric and features collagen yarns for ultra-soft jaw support. Velcro closures at the top and nape of the neck allow for easy, everyday wear.”

In an Instagram ‘get ready with me’ video, Piper commented: “Okay, can we talk about the new Skims Kardashian neckband snatched face thing? You know what I mean? I mean, we’ve all seen it, right?

“I was scrolling and just like stumbled across it and I assumed it was a burn survivor that I was following or some kind of medical account that I was following.”

She further elaborated that she had to wear a similar device during her pressure therapy, part of her recovery from burns, wearing it 24 hours daily for two years. However, she noted she ‘didn’t pay what Kim is charging for hers’.

Piper added: “So when I saw this latest offering from them for women, I was just like, oh my God. No, please, people – don’t imprison your face in this contraption. Don’t be so cruel and unkind to your face.

“If you hate your jaw, I mean, I kind of hate this expression, right? ‘Snatched face’, it basically means tight jaw or thin jaw, right? If you hate your jaw and you’re young, the chances are it’s to do with a diet of processed food and sugar, right? And you have inflammation and you feel spongy.

“Change your diet, go for a walk. Don’t punish your face and strap it up in this expensive piece of cloth that is going to do nothing. If you hate your jaw and you’re my age or older, chances are it’s aging, loss of elasticity, collagen, laxity, jowls, whatever.”

She continued: “Do you know what the opposite to aging is? Dying. Not getting older means you are dead, okay? Stop being cruel to your face. Stop being unkind to your face. Your face does amazing things. Do you know what your face is home to? It’s home to your eyesight, your smell, your taste.

“Everything, all your senses your face carries you through this amazing thing that we call life and if one day you didn’t have your face, or somebody took your face away from you, you would be so sad and you would feel so bad that you encased it in a stupid strap – that by the way does absolutely nothing.”

Since the acid attack carried out by Stefan Sylvestre, who was recruited by Lynch for the attack, Piper has built a successful career as a morning television presenter and has a family with her husband, whom she married in 2016, and their two children.

Furthermore, she was honored with an OBE for her contributions to charity and support for burn victims and others with disfigurement injuries. She received the award from the Queen in the New Year’s honors list in 2022, nine months before Queen Elizabeth II’s passing.
