Why the ‘forgotten’ Osbourne sister chose to remain out of the spotlight after surprising revelation from brother Jack

Aimee Osbourne made a rare public appearance in Birmingham, UK, recently, attending a procession for her father, Ozzy Osbourne. This marked the first time Aimee has been seen in public for quite some time. Many have wondered why she often remains out of the limelight.

Ozzy Osbourne, the legendary frontman of Black Sabbath, passed away last month at the age of 76. He spent his final years at his UK estate, battling Parkinson’s disease. Just weeks before his death, Ozzy managed to perform in his beloved hometown of Birmingham. The concert, which featured Black Sabbath, was a charitable event that raised an impressive $190 million.

At Ozzy’s funeral last week, Sharon Osbourne was accompanied by her children Kelly, Jack, and the seldom-seen Aimee. While Kelly and Jack gained fame through the reality show “The Osbournes,” Aimee chose a different path, opting to stay out of the public eye.

In a 2015 interview with the Independent, Aimee discussed her strained relationship with her family, particularly her siblings, which explains her infrequent public appearances.

“I wouldn’t say there is an ease between us. But there is an acceptance. Do we socialize? No,” Aimee told the publication.

At 16, Aimee made the choice to leave the Osbourne family home in Los Angeles to avoid being part of the reality TV show, “The Osbournes.”

Reflecting on her decision, Aimee told the Independent, “Back then, I still felt I was trying to figure out who I was in the chaos of family life, so why on earth would I want that portrayed on television?” She added, “I wanted to protect myself, my parents, my siblings, too. They were very young, very impressionable.”

Last month, Jack Osbourne shared his insights on the family’s dynamic during an appearance on the Disrespectfully podcast. He explained the different perspectives he and Aimee had regarding their family’s reality show.

“When the show launched in 2002, Aimee really wanted to be a musician,” Jack noted. “She was into artists like Fiona Apple and Mazzy Star, mysterious, moody, almost underground.”

Jack further explained that Aimee viewed appearing on MTV as “low-hanging fruit” and had no interest in leveraging the family’s fame for her own career. She wanted to carve out her own path and not “ride our coat-tails,” he said.

Even when the show became a hit, Aimee remained steadfast in her decision not to join. Jack recounted, “She was like, ‘If I come on now, I’ll look like I’m jumping on the bandwagon.’ She wanted to stay private and obscure.”

Jack concluded by acknowledging the distance between them: “We’re just not close at all. We don’t have a great relationship, she’ll be the first to tell you that. It’s no secret.”
