Earlier this week, a man in Washington was charged following an incident where he allegedly threw a sandwich at police officers.
Donald Trump has sparked controversy with his announcement of significant changes to law enforcement in Washington DC. He has pledged to implement bold plans to combat crime and restore the city to its former glory.
On Truth Social, Trump wrote, “Before the tents, squalor, filth, and Crime, it was the most beautiful Capital in the World. It will soon be that again.”
Trump has also criticized Washington as a ‘sanctuary for illegal alien criminals,’ claiming it has fallen into ‘lawlessness’ to the extent that it’s now ‘one of the most dangerous cities in the world,’ with homicide rates surpassing those in Bogotá or Mexico City.
This statement contradicts official statistics, which indicate that DC is experiencing a 30-year low in violent crime.
Perhaps most alarmingly, Trump stated that police will have the authority to ‘do whatever the hell they want’ in their efforts to clean up the city.
These remarks have been met with strong opposition, with some labeling Trump’s plans as draconian and ‘evil.’
However, one man appears to have experienced firsthand how serious Trump is about enforcing strict measures in Washington.
Sean Charles Dunn was taken into custody and charged with a felony on Sunday (August 10) after he allegedly threw a sub-style sandwich at officers, as per court records.
According to police, Dunn confronted a group of US Customs and Border Protection officers on 14th Street in Northwest DC, labeling them ‘fascists.’
He reportedly shouted obscenities at the officers, expressing his desire for their removal from the city.
Police reported that Dunn later crossed the street, returned with a sandwich, and allegedly threw it at an officer’s chest. He attempted to escape but was apprehended, they stated.
While being processed, Dunn purportedly admitted to throwing the sandwich and now faces charges of assaulting a federal police officer.
Following his arrest, US Attorney for DC Jeanine Pirro took to social media to commend the action and ridicule Dunn.
In a video posted on Twitter, she remarked: “Trump’s message to criminals was that ‘if you spit, we hit.’
“We didn’t quite do that the other night when an individual went up to one of the federal law enforcement officers and started jumping up down, screaming at him, berating him, yelling at him and then he took a sandwich and threw it at the officer.
“He thought it was funny, well he doesn’t think it is funny today because we charged him with a felony, assault on a police officer.
“And we are going to back the police to the hilt, so there, stick your sandwich somewhere else.”
