Police investigating ‘discrepancies’ in mother’s narrative of 7-month-old child’s ‘abduction’ tale

Authorities in California are currently investigating the alleged abduction of a child and have noted ‘inconsistencies’ in the story provided by the child’s mother.

Rebecca Haro, the mother of seven-month-old Emmanuel Haro, initially reported the kidnapping to investigators on August 14, claiming her son was taken from her while she was outside a store in Yucaipa, California.

Haro explained to the authorities that she had been assaulted outside the store that evening, which left her unconscious, and upon regaining consciousness, her baby was missing.

As reported by ABC7, Haro was in the process of changing Emmanuel’s diaper in the back of her truck when the incident occurred.

She described: “I got him out of the car seat, and I laid him down so I can get his diaper ready. All I remember, I saw white. I fell on the floor, and as soon as I got up, I couldn’t find my son.

“I checked all around my truck. And I ran into Big 5, and I asked the lady if she saw a baby or someone with a baby. She said no.”

On August 14, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department issued a statement noting that K9 Units with scent tracking dogs arrived at the scene to conduct a thorough search for Emmanuel, alongside a search for any evidence that could provide clues about his whereabouts and the circumstances of his disappearance.

However, by August 16, the sheriff’s department revealed that interviews had surfaced ‘inconsistencies’ in Haro’s narrative.

Detectives from the sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division interviewed various individuals regarding Emmanuel’s disappearance, including both Rebecca and the child’s father, Jake.

In a subsequent news release, they stated: “During those interviews, Rebecca was confronted with inconsistencies in her initial statement and declined to continue with the interview.

“At this point in the investigation, investigators are unable to rule out foul play in the disappearance of Emmanuel. Investigators will continue their investigation to locate Emmanuel Haro.”

On August 20, it was reported by a Sheriff’s Department spokesperson that Jake Haro’s vehicle had been confiscated for evidence collection related to the investigation. No suspects have been publicly identified by the deputies so far.

Emmanuel Haro is described as last seen wearing a black Nike onesie, weighing roughly 21 pounds, and measuring about 24 inches tall. He has brown hair, brown eyes, and is noted to be cross-eyed, according to the authorities.

The authorities are urging anyone with information about Emmanuel’s disappearance to reach out to the sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division at 909-890-4904.
