Grieving mother speaks out following streamer’s tragic live broadcast death after enduring ‘torture’ for months

The mother of French streamer Jean Pormanove has spoken out following his unexpected death, which has left the online community in shock.

Raphael Graven, known online as Jean Pormanove, was discovered deceased in his bed on Monday, August 18, with the camera still operating.

Pormanove had been live streaming on the platform Kick for 10 consecutive days, engaging with a stream of messages from his viewers.

Concern arose among those watching when Pormanove stopped interacting and appeared motionless.

In an interview with RTL, his mother described him as a man with a ‘big heart’.

“He had brothers in Metz, but he found brothers in Nice, he was a family, he was invited everywhere,” she said, choosing to remain unnamed.

His sister, suspecting that exhaustion led to his death, also spoke about her brother.

“I was very, very proud of what my brother became,” she expressed. “I didn’t watch everything, but I think he shouldn’t have died like that, that he died of exhaustion. What he went through is unacceptable.”

Pormanove attracted a significant online following through his extreme content, which reportedly involved him being slapped, force-fed, strangled, and shot with a paintball gun for entertainment.

The livestream, which featured streamers Owen Cenazandotti (Naruto) and Safine Hamadi (Safine), was widely circulated following his death.

Both Naruto and Safine had previously been questioned by authorities regarding their treatment of vulnerable individuals to profit from online events.

Pormanove had been questioned in January as a potential victim, but he denied any abuse by the duo, telling officers that the situations were ‘staged and aimed at creating a buzz and earning money’.

Authorities have been investigating by questioning witnesses and collecting evidence, including videos, as stated by prosecutor Damien Martinelli.

“Several interviews with people present at the time of his death have been conducted without yielding leads as to its causes,” he said, announcing that an autopsy would take place today (August 21).

“The death of Jean Pormanove and the violence he suffered are an absolute horror,” commented Clara Chappaz, the French junior minister for digital matters.

Reports indicate that just days before his death, Pormanove sent a final message to his mother, describing feeling ‘held hostage’ and expressing his exhaustion with the humiliating streams that had brought him fame.

A spokesperson for Kick expressed their sadness over the news and promised a thorough investigation into the circumstances of his death.

“We are urgently reviewing the circumstances and collaborating with relevant stakeholders. Kick’s community guidelines are designed to protect creators, and we are committed to enforcing them across our platform,” they stated.

Sarah El Hairy, France’s high commissioner for children, also spoke on the incident, emphasizing the responsibility of platforms to regulate content to protect children from exposure to violence.

Canadian rapper Drake and online streamer Adin Ross are reportedly planning to cover the funeral expenses.
