The mother of Trey Dean Wright, a teenager who was tragically murdered, has opened up about her son’s relationship with his girlfriend, Gianna Kistenmacher, who has been implicated in his death.
On June 25, 16-year-old Trey was fatally shot multiple times, with allegations that his final moments were captured on video.
Nine teenagers, including Trey’s 17-year-old girlfriend Gianna Kistenmacher, have turned themselves in to authorities in connection with his death.
Trey and Gianna had reportedly been dating for a few weeks prior to the incident.
One of those arrested is Devin Scott Raper, who faces charges of murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
In a statement regarding Devin’s arrest, the Florence County Sheriff’s Office stated: “On June 24, 2025 at approximately 11:30 pm FCSO deputies responded to a call of a shooting incident on First Neck Road near Johnsonville, SC. When deputies arrived, the victim was discovered laying in the roadway with multiple gunshot wounds.”
The statement further explained: “Devin Scott Raper was taken into custody on June 25, 2025 in Conway, SC and charged with Murder and Possession of a Weapon During the Commission of a Violent Crime. According to Investigators, Raper is alleged to have shot the victim following a verbal altercation.”
It is believed that the motive behind Devin’s actions was a conflict over Trey’s girlfriend, Gianna.
Gianna is accused of playing a role in luring Trey to his demise as part of a purported love triangle, an assertion that Trey’s mother, Ashley Lindsey, disputes.
“My son wasn’t about dumb stuff like a love triangle,” Ashley told the Mail Online. “He told me just two days before he was killed that being with Gianna felt like a dream come true.”
She continued: “He really liked her, but he might have been clueless to whatever else was going on.”
Ashley claims that Gianna, whom she described as a ‘queen bee,’ intentionally provoked an argument with Trey the day before his death.
Ethan Kirby, 18, a close friend of Trey, shared his thoughts with the publication.
“I believe [Gianna] just wanted them to fight, not for it to end this way,” Ethan stated, adding: “It was all a childish act that turned real.”
Trey’s grandmother, Catherine Lee, recounted that Gianna visited the hospital on the night Trey was shot. The shooting occurred on June 24, and Trey tragically succumbed to his injuries the following day.
“She came to the hospital,” Lee told ABC News 4. “And we thought, we didn’t know she had anything to do with it. We were comforting her.”
Of the nine suspects associated with Trey’s killing, eight have been released on bond, while Devin, the alleged gunman, remains in custody.
