Final Actions of Death Row Inmate Before Lethal Injection Execution Revealed

A Florida man’s final moments before his execution have been disclosed.

Curtis Windom had been incarcerated on Death Row at Florida State Prison since 1992 after being convicted of three murders and an attempted murder on November 7.

Windom, aged 59, was executed for the killings of his intermittent partner, Valerie Davis, her mother, Mary Lubin, and Johnnie Lee, a man reportedly indebted to him by $2,000.

Despite his daughter, shared with Davis, pleading for a reprieve, Windom was executed by lethal injection.

Curtis Windom’s daughter was vocal about her opposition to her father’s execution, expressing her feelings to the Orlando Sentinel: “It hurt. It hurt a lot. Life was not easy growing up.”

“But if we could forgive him, I don’t see why people on the street who haven’t been through our pain have a right to say he should die.”

Her statement, released through an anti-death penalty organization that gathered 5,000 petition signatures urging the governor to halt the execution, read: “Forgiveness comes with time, and 33 years is a long time. I, myself, have forgiven my father.”

Windom reportedly located Lee after learning from a friend that Lee had won $114 at a greyhound racetrack.

Windom allegedly warned the friend: “You’re gonna read about me.”

According to ABC News, court documents suggest Windom acquired a .38-caliber revolver and 50 bullets from Walmart, then tracked down Lee to his car and shot him twice.

He reportedly finished by shooting him again while he was on the ground.

Following Lee’s murder, Windom is said to have driven to Davis’s apartment and shot her too, allegedly ‘with no provocation.’

During his violent spree, he injured another man and encountered Lubin, who was on her way to check on her daughter after hearing about the incident.

He shot Lubin twice as she sat at a stop sign.

During Windom’s last hours, he consumed his final meal on Thursday, August 28, which included ribs, baked beans, collard greens, potato salad, pie, ice cream, and a soda, according to ABC 13.

At 6.02 pm, Windom received the lethal injection. Although he spoke his final words, they were inaudible to those present. He then took several deep breaths, his chest heaving and legs twitching before becoming still by 6.08 pm.

He was declared dead at 6.17 pm, as reported by the Orlando Sentinel.

Davis’s sister, Kemene Hunter, expressed support for his execution, according to WFTV.

This execution was Florida’s 11th on death row and the 30th nationwide this year.

“All I want to say is, it took 33 years to get some closure,” Hunter stated, adding, “Vengeance is mine, says the lord.”

Windom’s legal team had been seeking to prevent the execution, arguing he suffered from mental health issues that were not considered during his trial.

Just a day before his execution, his last appeal was rejected by the US Supreme Court.
