A video capturing an adult’s unusual actions towards a child at the 2025 US Open has rapidly gained attention online, with many condemning him as ‘disgusting’ and a ‘bully’.
The US Open, the last Grand Slam tennis event of the year, is taking place in Queens, New York City. The event has already seen highlights such as Naomi Osaka’s luxury Labubus, Venus Williams’ comeback, and a heated exchange between Jelena Ostapenko and Taylor Townsend.
As the third round concludes for both Women’s and Men’s Singles matches, Poland’s Kamil Majchrzak is gearing up to play against Switzerland’s Leandro Riedi on Court 5 today (August 30).
Just a couple of days ago, on August 28, Majchrzak achieved an impressive comeback, defeating Russia’s Karen Khachanov in a thrilling five-set match on Court 11.
Following what many have described as the ‘biggest win of his career’, the 29-year-old approached the audience to thank fans and sign autographs.
In a video posted to X, Majchrzak was seen removing his hat to hand it to a child.
However, a man nearby appeared to grab the cap instead, leaving the child visibly upset as he protested.
Even though the boy was clearly distressed, the adult at the US Open chose to keep the hat, drawing criticism across social media platforms.
Reacting to the footage, one user on X (formerly known as Twitter) commented: “That’s the biggest douche in America on the right. Stealing a hat meant for a kid at the U.S. Open. It would be a shame if someone recognized him.”
Another critic called the incident ‘disgusting’, emphasizing how terrible it is to see someone act like a ‘child bully’.
A separate viewer remarked, “A grown man collecting autographs is one of the oddest things I’ll never understand. You also have to be a big bag of s**t to do that to a child.”
In a humorous tone, a fourth person commented: “I suspect this man may feel similar regret to the Coldplay CEO shortly.”
Majchrzak later admitted he didn’t realize his Asics cap didn’t reach its intended young recipient during the moment.
“After the match I didn’t record that my cap didn’t get to the boy,” he shared on Instagram.
“Thanks to Asics I’ve got enough caps, so I’m prepared for that. Hey guys, could you help me find the kid from my match? If it’s you (or your parents see this) please send me a DM.”
Internet users quickly took action, and the former World No.75 confirmed he has since connected with the child, as mentioned in a social media update.
“I am so impressed by the power of the Internet,” Majchrzak noted. “We got it! All good now.”
The US Open will continue until Sunday, September 7.
