Chrissy Teigen labeled ‘out of touch’ as she discusses Ozempic usage for the first time

Chrissy Teigen has openly discussed her use of Ozempic for the first time, although her candidness has led some fans to label her comments as ‘tone deaf.’

The model-turned-cook revealed that she began using the GLP-1 drug to aid in her weight loss journey following the tragic loss of her baby, Jack, who passed away at 20 weeks gestation in 2020.

Initially described as a miscarriage, the 39-year-old later disclosed in 2022 that the procedure was a life-saving abortion to ensure her own safety.

Through an Instagram post, Teigen informed her followers that she has been using Ozempic for five years. It’s important to note that the FDA has not approved this drug for weight loss, but rather for managing type-2 diabetes.

“It’s time to talk about that dirty little buzzword word. The one that gossip writers adore for the sheer fact it is such a polarizing, clickbaity topic that really gets people talking (and judging). Ozempic,” she wrote in the caption.

“I first started taking ozempic after the loss of our Jack – there I was, existing in a body that didn’t feel like mine, with absolutely nothing to celebrate – just the constant reminder that this body that once carried life for 20 weeks, was now just a…sad reminder.”

“Food has always been my joy, my comfort, and my struggle. Talking with @johann.hari about Ozempic and these ‘magic pill’ weight-loss drugs got real – the shame, the relief, the weirdness of losing hunger. It’s complicated, it’s emotional, and yeah… a little funny too.”

She also shared a screenshot of her conversation with podcast host Johann Hari, where she addressed her experiences.

The British journalist inquired if using Ozempic was a ‘really psychologically odd sensation.’

Teigen replied: “I did, and it was frustrating… For me it’s almost torturous not being hungry at all… I love being hungry. I love craving food. I love desiring food.”

While many praised the star for her openness, others were less supportive.

“I’m sorry I love you but this is incredibly tone deaf (which is why no one talks about it),” one fan commented.

“I really appreciate your content most of the time but complaining about this is something you do with friends, not on a public forum.”

Another added: “Not being able to take it because your health insurance won’t pay for it is even more frustrating. Just be thankful it is an option for you.”

However, one individual commended her courage in speaking out.

“You are brave, witty, relatable, honest…Thank you for ‘being real’ and sharing many of your experiences with the masses, regardless of judgment or backlash,” they praised.

“The good you do is BIGGER than the critics, please always remember that.”
