Fans have been on edge since learning that William Shatner had an unexpected visit to the hospital earlier this week.
Shatner is a legendary figure in television, holding a special place in the hearts of Star Trek enthusiasts worldwide.
Thus, the news of a potential medical crisis on Wednesday, September 24, caused concern among supporters of the 94-year-old actor.
The anxiety surrounding the situation is likely linked to Shatner’s previous revelations about his health, specifically his Stage 4 melanoma diagnosis, a severe form of skin cancer, from last year.
During the American Academy of Dermatology Annual Meeting in September, he shared: “I’m breezing along looking good and feeling good and I noticed a lump on the side of my right ear.
“I went to my family doctor, who said the parotid gland was probably jammed up, and to just massage it and it will go away.”
He later visited another doctor, receiving a starkly different diagnosis.
He recounted: “I went and had [the lump] taken out. It was melanoma, stage 4. They said if this [treatment] they used did not work, I had about 5 months.”
As for his recent hospital visit, details emerged on social media, revealing that it was due to a blood sugar issue.
Shatner addressed the situation on X, previously known as Twitter, assuring everyone he was fine.
He humorously remarked, ‘rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated.’
He stated: “I over indulged. I thank you all for caring but I’m perfectly fine. I keep telling you all: don’t trust tabloids or AI!”
In a subsequent message, Shatner continued to make light of the hospital visit and promoted his upcoming convention appearance.
He announced: “Salt Lakers! I’ll be at #FanX in Salt Lake City tomorrow and Saturday! Better come see me before another tabloid tries to kill me off!”
This brought relief to fans who expressed their feelings in Shatner’s comments section.
One fan commented: “Good to hear from you! Yes we where worried. We still want you here on earth for a bit longer.”
Another said: “Full recovery Captain, at Warp Speed. That’s an order!”
A third shared: “I’m sending some extra love to you today, Captain! No matter how else my day goes, it is better because I know you’re alright.”
With another simply stating: “Oh Captain, my Captain.”
