Amazon Prime Video users are just now discovering a TV series that has been described as ‘amazing’ and boasts a 100 percent rating.
The platform offers more than 2,800 TV shows, including a series with a 96 percent rating that viewers say they ‘can’t stop watching’.
If you think you’ve exhausted all the good content on the service, it’s time to reconsider.
This series, described as ‘heartfelt’, aired for three seasons. It struck such a chord with fans that many said they could have watched 15 more seasons.
Originally broadcast between 2022 and 2024 on HBO, the show can now be streamed via Prime Video’s HBO add-on.
Created by Hannah Bos and Paul Thureen of Mozart in the Jungle fame, the series follows Sam Miller (played by Bridget Everett), who relocates back to her hometown of Manhattan, Kansas, following her sister’s death.
Sam faces struggles with grief, identity, and a sense of belonging, but her life takes a turn when she reconnects with Joel (Jeff Hiller), an eccentric coworker who introduces her to a close-knit community of outsiders.
As she adapts, Sam also uncovers more about the lives of her family members, including her sister Tricia (Mary Catherine Garrison), who runs a small business, her father Ed (Mike Hagerty), and her mother Mary Jo (Jane Brody), each dealing with their own issues.
On Reddit, a Prime Video user sought recommendations for ‘light and wholesome’ TV series.
“My wife is after a show that’s very light but also heartwarming and fun to watch,” they wrote.
“I think the closest example I can think of is The Good Place (or maybe The Dragon Prince, she loved that). Can anyone please recommend something that fits the bill?”
The top recommendation was the series in question: Somebody Somewhere.
“The most heartwarming show out there,” one respondent commented.
Another added: “I love that everyone keeps suggesting this. It’s such an amazing show.”
A third person echoed: “Came to say this. It’s the only answer,” while someone else noted: “Just started watching it and it really leaves you feeling better after watching it.”
If you’re still not convinced, perhaps the show’s 100 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes will persuade you.
Critics praised Everett’s ‘captivating’ performance, remarking: “Somebody Somewhere explores the human condition with tenderness, grace, and warmth.”
Despite the show’s three seasons, viewers have given it a 94 percent rating, with one stating: “How did I not know about this show? It is fantastic. A show with complicated characters that hit all the emotions. So good.”
“Well worth a weekend binge,” another viewer commented, while a third said: “Hilarious, moving, and real dialogue that I would have watched 15 seasons of.”
All three seasons of Somebody Somewhere are currently available for streaming on HBO and through its Prime Video add-on.
