The $1.5 million property belonging to a judge at Edisto Beach was completely destroyed by fire, occurring just weeks after a ruling unfavorable to Donald Trump’s administration.
On Saturday, October 4, the fire department responded to a call regarding the residence of South Carolina judge Diane Goodstein.
As a result of the incident, three individuals required hospitalization.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, and South Carolina Chief Justice John Kittredge informed FITSNews that the blaze stemmed from an ‘apparent explosion.’
This event coincides with the Department of Justice’s request for South Carolina officials to surrender the personal information of over 3.3 million registered voters. This data encompassed names, addresses, birthdates, driver’s license numbers, and the last four digits of Social Security numbers.
The purpose of the administration was to match this voter information against a Department of Homeland Security database that monitors noncitizens, aiming to identify any ineligible registered voters, as reported by The New York Times.
Nonetheless, a South Carolina voter, Anne Crook, initiated a legal action to prevent the disclosure. On September 2, Circuit Court Judge Diane Goodstein issued a temporary restraining order to prevent the transfer of voter data.
According to court documents accessed by WRDW, Goodstein stated in her decision that the release of data could inflict ‘immediate and irreparable damage’ to Crook by breaching her privacy rights.
