The ex-wife of a man known as the ‘world’s hottest felon’ has shared why she chose to divorce him soon after he gained internet fame.
Think back to June 2014. The search for the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 had just started, Taylor Swift’s 1989 was still a few months from release, and Covid-19 was an unknown term.
During that month, Jeremy Meeks was arrested on felony weapons charges, and his mugshot was posted on Facebook by the Stockton Police Department.
Officer Joseph Silva later told the Associated Press: “I have not seen that many likes for a photo before.”
Meeks’ striking appearance caught the public’s attention, leading to his nickname as the ‘world’s hottest felon.’
This sudden fame impacted not only Meeks’ life but also that of his then-wife, Melissa.
Three years after his mugshot went viral, Meeks was seen kissing Chloe Green, the heiress to the Topshop brand, aboard a yacht in Turkey.
Melissa discussed the picture with the Daily Mail, expressing her ‘shock’ and ‘humiliation’ at seeing her husband with Green.
“Some random person I don’t know sent a direct message with the photograph of my husband kissing that woman,” she said. “I went into shock. I felt nauseated. It was like a bomb had gone off and my whole world had been blown apart.
“I know it takes two to tango but she knew he was married,” Melissa stated.
“To me, that’s unforgivable. My whole world has been torn apart by this. What do I tell our children? My heart is broken.”
Melissa recounted meeting Meeks to discuss their divorce, noting, “I told him I didn’t think the marriage could be saved. He agreed. The marriage is over.”
In 2018, Green announced the birth of her and Meeks’ son, Jayden Meeks-Green.
In an Instagram post, she wrote: “Born May 29th 2018. Mommy and Baby both doing well. We kindly ask to respect our privacy please. Much love Chloe & Jeremy.”
Though Green and Meeks eventually parted ways, Meeks described having an ‘incredible relationship’ with Green in an interview with Extra in October 2020.
He said: “Now I have a relationship with the mother of my oldest son … We’re all coparenting. They are incredible mothers.”
