A lip reader has revealed the tense exchange between Donald Trump and the French president at a peace summit in Egypt.
President Trump met with Emmanuel Macron at the Sharm El-Sheikh summit, which took place after the initial phase of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas.
The two leaders are known for their notably long handshakes, and this meeting followed suit.
However, an expert observed that Trump and Macron engaged in a strained conversation.
Lip reader Nicola Hickling told the Daily Mail that the interaction seemed to grow tense.
“Nice to see you, so you agreed?” Trump allegedly said to Macron, who then turned away for a photograph, murmuring something inaudible.
“Are you being genuine?” Trump continued, to which Macron responded: “Of course.”
Trump then intensified his handshake, stating: “Okay, so now I want to know why, you hurt me. I already know,” and squeezed his hand again.
The exact context of their conversation is unclear, but it comes shortly after Macron made light of Trump with other EU leaders at a summit in Copenhagen.
On October 2, Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev, and Macron were overheard laughing about Trump’s geographical errors.
Hickling noted that the meeting in Egypt seemed to take a darker turn as Trump appeared to issue a warning.
“I am making peace,” Trump stated, to which Macron replied: “Ah, come on.”
“I only hurt those who hurt others,” Trump seemed to retort while gesturing toward the cameras.
“I see. We will have to see about that,” Macron allegedly responded before delivering his own ominous warning: “You will see what is about to happen.”
“I’d like to see you do it, do it. I’ll see you in a bit,” Trump concluded.
