Following President Donald Trump’s successful negotiation of a ceasefire agreement in Gaza, his predecessor, Joe Biden, has expressed commendation for his administration’s efforts.
As Trump pursues the Nobel Peace Prize, he is actively working towards achieving global peace, having addressed conflicts between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as Pakistan and India. Meanwhile, he paradoxically deployed the National Guard to remove homeless individuals in Washington D.C.
Despite being 79 years old, Trump was surpassed by Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado for the prize. However, he managed to temporarily resolve the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip.
The president had advocated for Israel to accept a ceasefire following its continuous bombing of Gaza since October 2023, which began soon after the Hamas-led attack in southern Israel on October 7 of the same year.
Hamas, a Palestinian militant organization, had held Israeli hostages for the past two years, while Israel detained Palestinians. All surviving hostages have now been freed.
As reported by the BBC, the proposed ‘initial withdrawal’ under the ‘peace plan’ agreement would result in approximately 55 percent of Gaza being occupied, followed by a reduction to about 40 percent in the second phase.
The final withdrawal stage aims to establish a ‘security buffer zone’, leaving roughly 15 percent of Gaza under Israeli military occupation.
Former president Joe Biden took to Twitter to commend Trump, while also surprisingly attempting to claim credit for his own administration.
“I am deeply grateful and relieved that this day has come – for the last living 20 hostages who have been through unimaginable hell and are finally reunited with their families and loved ones, and for the civilians in Gaza who have experienced immeasurable loss and will finally get the chance to rebuild their lives,” he wrote.
“The road to this deal was not easy. My Administration worked relentlessly to bring hostages home, get relief to Palestinian civilians, and end the war. I commend President Trump and his team for their work to get a renewed ceasefire deal over the finish line.
“Now, with the backing of the United States and the world, the Middle East is on a path to peace that I hope endures and a future for Israelis and Palestinians alike with equal measures of peace, dignity, and safety.”
This incident occurred just days after Trump again criticized Biden on Air Force One, referring to him as incompetent, following the president’s previous cancer diagnosis.
“We had an incompetent administration. We had an incompetent president. And because of a crooked election, millions of people are dead,” Trump remarked.
“And by the way, the Israeli thing was much harder to get settled because of the past administration.”
