Man Accused of Arson at Governor’s Mansion Pleads Guilty, Receives Unexpected Sentence

The individual accused of setting fire to Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro’s residence has admitted to the crime.

In April, the residence of the Democratic Governor in Harrisburg was targeted in an attack. Authorities reported that the suspect allegedly climbed a seven-foot wall, entered the mansion, and employed a homemade incendiary device, resulting in extensive damage to a section of the house during the early morning hours.

Cody A. Balmer has now confessed to charges including attempted murder, 22 counts of arson, aggravated arson, burglary, and other related offenses in a court appearance today (October 14).
