An expert has shared a crucial step to take if you come across a common household item from 2007 that may soon be valued at $50,000.
While those prone to hoarding might feel burdened by keeping items for years that seemingly have no worth, occasionally they might possess something with substantial value. Before you start clearing out your drawers, one expert has highlighted that certain items in your home could potentially be worth up to $50,000 or more.
Adam Koprucki, the founder of Real World Investor, informed the New York Post: “Most people throw away items that could pay for their retirement in just a few years.”
“The truth is, certain everyday objects sitting in your home might be worth more than your stock portfolio by 2030.”
Discussing what might have appreciated in value over the years, Adam mentioned: “The first-generation iPhone, released in 2007, sold for $499 new, but sealed examples now fetch upwards of $20,000 at auction. By 2030, mint-condition models could easily surpass $50,000.”
Koprucki also pointed out Star Wars toys and Pokémon cards as additional items that might hold significant value.
Original Transformers toys from the 1980s, when unopened, can command prices as high as $20,000 each. Similarly, first-edition Harry Potter books that originally cost less than $20 may now be worth over $50,000.
“A sealed copy of Super Mario Bros. sold for $2 million in 2021,” he revealed.
If you suspect you might own something valuable, what should you do next?
Adam advised that you should have the item evaluated by a professional before listing it online to ensure you can attain its maximum value.
“Online auction sites make it easier than ever to sell collectibles, but knowing exactly what you have is crucial to getting top dollar,” he elaborated.
Recent years have seen astonishing sales, such as a first-generation, unopened, factory-sealed 8-GB iPhone selling for $63,000 in 2023. An even rarer 4-GB original iPhone from 2007 fetched an impressive $190,372.80. However, it’s not solely tech items that are selling for substantial amounts.
First editions of books, games, and classic toys may also be highly valuable, making Star Wars and Pokémon items particularly noteworthy.
It might be time to start checking those old drawers for hidden treasures!
