A woman from Michigan found fortune in an unexpected way by winning the lottery after consulting an AI chatbot for her numbers.
Despite the AI chatbot having no capability to predict the exact six numbers, Tammy Carvey decided to see what it could suggest for the Powerball game.
The 45-year-old resident of Wyandotte was enticed to try her luck when the jackpot climbed to an astounding $1.787 billion.
“I asked ChatGPT for a set of Powerball numbers and those are the numbers I played,” Carvey informed KARE 11 following her win.
The chosen numbers – 11, 23, 44, 61, 62, and powerball 17 – matched four white balls plus the red powerball, earning Carvey a notable $50,000. Thanks to selecting the Power Play option, her prize ultimately increased.
Her winnings doubled, reaching a total of $100,000.
Carvey admitted she usually participates in the lottery only when the jackpot reaches nine figures.
“I only play Powerball when the jackpot gets up there and the jackpot was over $1 billion, so I bought a ticket,” she mentioned.
Initially, the Wayne County resident was unaware of the total amount she had won, as she had overlooked the Power Play choice she had marked when purchasing the ticket.
“Google told me it was a $50,000 prize, so that’s what I thought I’d won,” she noted. “It wasn’t until I logged into my Michigan Lottery account that I realized I added the Power Play to my ticket and actually won $100,000! My husband and I were in total disbelief.”
Carvey intends to use her AI-assisted prize wisely by paying off her mortgage and saving the rest.
Although it sounds like something out of science fiction, Michigan Lottery officials were quick to point out that her success was purely due to chance.
“The results of all Lottery drawings are random and cannot be predicted by utilizing artificial intelligence or other number-generating tools,” they stated.
Carvey isn’t the only one who has tried this approach. Virginian Carrie Edwards also experienced success after asking ChatGPT for winning numbers, securing $50,000 that grew to $150,000 because of her Power Play choice.
The historic jackpot in September was divided between two players who matched the winning combination, and while AI didn’t ‘predict’ the outcome, it’s evident that some people enjoy using technology to help pick their numbers.
