A man has been sentenced after pleading guilty to the sexual assault of a 19-year-old soldier.
Battery Sergeant Major Michael Webber confessed to sexually assaulting Jaysley Beck in an incident that took place in July 2021.
During this encounter, Webber involved Gunner Beck in a drinking game called Last Man Standing, after which he touched her thigh and attempted to kiss her.
Although the police were not informed of the incident, Beck did report the incident to her superiors the following day.
Sadly, a few months later, the young woman took her own life.
Webber has now received his sentence, and Beck’s father, Anthony Beck, spoke in court before the sentencing.
According to BBC News, he stated: “When Jaysley told me what Michael Webber did, it made me sick. He was twice her age, she trusted him and he took advantage of her trust. She became quieter, stopped trusting people and it was awful to see that light go out in her.”
Webber has been sentenced to six months in prison.

Jaysley Beck’s mother, Leighann McCready, also made a statement in court.
“That assault shattered her faith in the set-up that was supposed to look after her,” she shared. “I truly believe how it was handled broke something inside her she couldn’t repair.”
The case continues to unfold.
