Starbucks Issues Apology Following Customer Fights Over Popular ‘Bearista Cups’

Starbucks has apologized to its customers after the release of its Bearista cold-cups led to chaos among shoppers vying for the seasonal item.

The popular glass cups were introduced globally on Thursday as a part of Starbucks’ holiday collection. However, the demand quickly surpassed supply, and the charming cups sold out almost immediately.

In efforts to secure the sought-after product, some customers ended up in altercations trying to take one home. Many fans left empty-handed, even after arriving at stores before their opening hours.

One social media user shared their experience, saying, “I got up at 4.00am and drove to a location that specifically said it would have this cup. I was first in line, they didn’t have it. I drove to four more locations, none of them had it and said they never did.”

Another user expressed frustration, stating, “If you are going to excite people over this then make sure ALL stores have supply. So many people are disappointed.”

There were even rumors on TikTok suggesting that some Starbucks employees purchased the products themselves before they were available to the public.

One allegation stated, “All the Starbucks employees came and took everything. And we’ve been waiting in line outside. That is so crazy to me.”

Starbucks itself had not anticipated the overwhelming demand for the bear-themed glass cup, as many customers were eager to add it to their collection.

In a statement, Starbucks explained: “The excitement for our merchandise exceeded even our biggest expectations and despite shipping more Bearista cups to coffeehouses than almost any other merchandise item this holiday season, the Bearista cup and some other items sold out fast.

“We understand many customers were excited about the Bearista cup and apologize for the disappointment this may have caused.”

While Starbucks did not confirm if more Bearista cups would be produced to satisfy demand, the company hinted at ‘more exciting merchandise coming this holiday season’.

Each year, Starbucks is recognized for its themed collections, with items such as cold cups, coasters, and travel cups gaining a global fanbase. Many of these items fetch high prices on the resale market.

Alongside its holiday merchandise, Starbucks has also introduced menu items like the Sugar Cookie and Iced Gingerbread Chai.
