Bryan Johnson caught his followers off guard when details of his experience with magic mushrooms were posted on social media.

Known as the biohacker with aspirations to ‘live forever’, Johnson has made a name for himself by sharing the various unconventional techniques he employs to attempt to ‘reverse’ his biological age.

The tech multi-millionaire is no stranger to sharing the unusual strategies he pursues in his quest for youth.

At 48, Johnson has previously claimed that his unorthodox experiment resulted in him having the ‘heart of a 37-year-old’ and the ‘lung capacity of an 18-year-old’.

In a series of recent social media updates, Johnson disclosed his plan to take a dose of magic mushrooms and document any outcomes.

Kate Tolo, the co-founder of Johnson’s company Blueprint, posted on X on November 9 that Johnson had consumed ‘five grams of magic mushrooms’.

She noted that she would be ‘confiscating his phone’ while providing updates on his status.

The consumption of five grams or more is termed a ‘heroic dose’, a phrase popularized by American philosopher Terence McKenna, a well-known advocate of magic mushrooms.

A macro dose is generally considered to be around 3.5 grams, making a ‘heroic dose’ significantly higher.

Tolo shared an image of Johnson resting with his eyes shielded, mentioning that he expressed enjoyment of the drum music playing.

She added that his perception of time was ‘definitely warped’, feeling longer than it actually was.

Tolo mentioned that Johnson was having a ‘lovely time’ and felt a ‘strong desire to look after the people in the room’.

She concluded by noting that he was experiencing hallucinations and started giggling, suggesting he was having a ‘fantastic time’ according to her observations.

In a subsequent update, a photo showed Johnson still lying down, seemingly concentrating on a cup.

Tolo also noted that he needed to use the bathroom and had been staring at the cup ‘for 10 minutes’.

Tolo reported difficulties in obtaining measurements from Johnson, such as a vial of spit, which she described as challenging.

Other assessments included a brain scan, blood pressure reading, and adrenal stress test.

Despite these tasks, there was a lighthearted atmosphere, with Johnson contemplating the universe and concluding ‘we’re all one’. He expressed a desire to return to bed and ‘return to the playground’.

Three images showed Johnson looking cheerful while eating a salad, with a caption quoting him: “The best salad I’ve ever eaten.”

Tolo noted that she would be returning Johnson’s phone soon, after which he provided a short update to his followers.

However, he did not elaborate on his experiences immediately.

Johnson later wrote: “Yes, this trip changed me. Probably not as you’d expect.

“People assume I am fearful of death. I’m not. In my darkest days of depression, I reconciled with death.

“Need a few days to collect my thoughts. Will share more soon.”
